Winter is coming soon and everyone knows what comes with that, girls’ high school basketball. The lady crusaders are looking to start their season off strong just like how they ended last year.

After coming off a strong season last year with a record 16-5, and 10-1 in the MAC Blue, the Crusaders are looking to have a really big year with key players, Brooke Daniels ’22, Olivia Chadwick ’22, and Kelsey Duffey ’21, coming back as the girl’s leaders. Last season was a bit ruined by COVID-19 so they are looking to be able to make a deep playoff run with a very experienced team.

Chadwick ‘22 says, “for this year, we all really have improved our game as a whole, our defense and offense has improved significantly along with getting back one of our starters from a yearlong injury. Also, as a leader, I just have to be a strong figure for the girls. Helping them with whatever they need and to push them to always work their hardest.”

The lady crusaders only lost one senior in Samantha Stimmel which will not affect the team too much. Another key played coming back is Jekiah Mack ’22 after a season ending injury last season. With that being said, the crusaders team chemistry and game IQ could potentially be one of the best in the MAC. The girls are a very fast playing team, grabbing a defensive rebound and pushing off the fast break looking to drive into four two easy points.

Daniels ‘22 states, “We can become a powerhouse team by getting to know each other and trusting one another to make the right play.”

The lady Crusaders kick off their season on December, 1st at seven p.m. in the Jackson Gymnasium against Berkley High School as a non-conference game. Their next two games are against Marian High School and arch-rivals L’Anse C
