The boys swim team at L’Anse Creuse North (LCN) is back on track to success although they have faced many hardships. These problems have caused many student athletes not to show up to swim practice or participate much in this year’s season.

In response to how COVID-19 has affected the boys swim season, Coach Mike Owensby says, “I think it kept a lot of swimmers from returning this season.”

Senior and team captain Darius Love has also stated, “ Not use the locker room which is annoying because after practice you have to go home all wet, and smelling like chlorine for the rest of the day.”

In addition, Devin Schwartz, ‘22, explains, “We must work harder because we don’t have a lot of time.” The reason he said this is because Governor Whitmer prohibited schools from continuing after-school sports, which has led to a two month break from swimming.

The boys face many other hardships which include having to wear a mask at all times on the pool deck and not being able to swim in the same lanes as the other boys. Even with all these obstacles in their way, they are still determined and passionate about their swim season.
