Softball season is officially here at L’Anse Creuse High School North (LCN). The varsity softball team is now able to play again as scheduled after being pushed back last year due to COVID.

One varsity softball player speaks to the North Star on how the season is going. “The season is going good so far. We all work really hard and put our best effort into every game,” Izzy Calabrese ‘21 shares. As of May 10th, the team has more wins than losses with a record of 6-4.

Although there have been many games played, Calabrese has a favorite one of the season in mind. “We’ve had a lot of really good games. Even though we lost this one, my favorite game has been the one against St.Clair because of how competitive it was. We were down by a lot, and at the end we scored so many runs. We ended up only losing by a few. That just showed how we never give up, even when it seems impossible to come back,” Calabrese reflects.

Another player, Lauryn Mowid ‘21, shared, “It would probably be our first game of the season against Utica. We played at home and while we were waiting for the game to start we all were dancing outside the dugout to ‘Cotton Eye Joe.’ We ended up winning the game and we all just had fun and played really well.”

This is a pretty sad time for the seniors on varsity since it’s their last year playing with the high school team. “It’s bittersweet because I’m having a lot of fun, but it’s sad because I won’t be playing with this team for LCN ever again after this year.” Calabrese explained.

Mowid also added “It is a love hate relationship. I am lucky enough to be playing softball in college, so I am excited to start that journey, but I am going to miss all of the girls we have been playing with for the last four years. Especially the juniors that have been with us the longest.”

If you have not seen a game yet, it is not too late. As of May 18th, there are still five games and two tournaments left, three of them being home games. LCN is very proud of how hard this team has worked all season, and everyone should come out and support the LCN varsity softball team for their next home game Tuesday, May 18th.
