In the beginning of 2021, Olivia Rodrigo rose to fame after releasing her hit single “Drivers License”. The song went viral on TikTok and so did Rodrigo, reaching the top of the charts only days after its release.

Rodrigo then released two more singles for the album, “Deja Vu” and “Good 4 U”, and the album was released at midnight on May 21st containing eleven songs. The singles from the album have put Rodrigo on the same level as artists like Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift due to the records they have broken. “Drivers License” broke Spotify records by having the most streams within the week it was released.

The songs on the album are “Brutal”, “Traitor”, “Drivers License”, “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back”, “Deja Vu”, “Good 4 U”, “Enough For You”, Happier”, “Jealousy, Jealousy”, “Favorite Crime”, and “Hope Ur Ok”. The songs “Brutal”, “Traitor”, and “Hope Ur Ok” have gained the most traction from fans on TikTok, even though they are tracks instead of singles. “Hope Ur Ok” has received exceptional feedback from fans because of the LGBTQ representation as the song is Rodrigo wishing her LGBTQ friends the best, knowing that they had a hard home life.  Another interesting track is “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back”.  Taylor Swift and her producer, Jack Antonoff, are listed as contributors on the track because the song interpolates “New Year’s Day” from Swift’s album “Reputation”.

“SOUR” is such a wonderfully created album, and deserves all of the hype it is currently receiving. My personal favorites from the album are “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back”, “Traitor”, and “Brutal”. The songs capture the feelings of a break up and being a teenager so well. I highly recommend listening to the album.
