2022 Winter Olympics Held in Beijing, China

The 2022 Winter Olympics are being held in Beijing, China. Although some preliminary events began two days before, on February 2nd, the opening ceremony was on February 4th, 2022. The Winter Olympics consist of 15 events including; Alpine Skiing, Biathlon (Cross-Country Skiing and Rifle Shooting), Bobsleigh, Cross-Country Skiing, Curling (Shuffleboard on Ice), Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ice Hockey, Luge (Lay down sled racing on your back), Nordic Combined (Ski jumping combined with Cross-Country Skiing), Short Track Speed Skating, Skeleton (Lay Down Sled Racing), Ski Jumping, Snowboarding, and Speed Skating. There are about 2,900 athletes competing at the Olympics this year from around 90 different countries. At this time, February 11th, 2022, the United States are tied in fifth place with Italy for total medals. The United States have 10 total medals which consist of four Gold Medals earned in Women’s Snowboard Cross, Freestyle Skiing Mixed Team Aerials, Men’s Figure Skating, Women’s Snowboard Halfpipe, five Silver Medals in Team Figure Skating, Men’s Alpine Skiing, Women’s Moguls Freestyle Skiing, Women’s Snowboarding Slopestyle, Men’s Freeski Big Air, and one Bronze Medal earned in Women’s Sprint Free Cross-Country Skiing. After about two weeks of competition, the games will end with the closing ceremony on February 20th, 2022.
