After four years, the Wizarding World finally returns to the big screen in a spell-binding adventure that had fans captivated until the very end. Last Friday, the anticipated third installment in the “Fantastic Beasts” series,“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” was released after four years.

The “Fantastic Beasts” movies are telling the story of Gellert Grindelwald’s attempt to take over the wizarding world. Although the main character is Newt Scamander, a person who is briefly mentioned in the “Harry Potter” series for being the author of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

The new movie begins with young Albus Dumbledore having a meeting with Grindelwald, in hopes that he will convince him to stop his takeover. It was confirmed in that scene that the two fell in love when they were teenagers, which is what prompted them to create a blood pact; a magical object that stops the two from ever fighting against each other, or it will kill the betrayer. Which is why Dumbledore created a team of different wizards, witches, and even muggles to help his fight against Grindelwald.

The newest addition to this team is Professor Eulailie “Lally” Hicks. She is an American witch who teaches charms at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her character bewitches the audience with her charm, sharp wit, and beautiful magic. She had been corresponding with Newt Scamander for years, so she was a perfect fit within the team. Her friendship with Jacob Kawalski was a hilarious addition to the movie, and provided an amusing aspect among the darker plot line.

The film itself had answered a lot of questions that fans have had for years. Only fans who have read all seven of the “Harry Potter” books would know all about Dumbledore’s family, including the death of his sister. His siblings had been briefly mentioned in the final movie, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”, but nothing beyond showing a portrait of his sister and his brother having three minutes of screen time. Although the new installment had featured his brother, Aberforth, as one of the main characters and finally explained Ariana’s death.  It had also dived into how Credence Barebone is a Dumbledore, by clarifying that he is the long lost son of Aberforth;which was a giant shock to fans.

The movie brought back the magical aspect that fans felt was lost within the second film. Every single scene that displayed magic was beautifully done, including the long awaited duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. They introduced brand new magical creatures within this film as well as keeping some familiar ones.

Fan’s and critics alike were curious to see how this film would do, especially after firing Johnny Depp. After the accusations Amber Heard made about Depp abusing her throughout their marriage, Warner Bros. had asked Depp to step down. Which led to Mads Mikkelsen taking over the role of Grindelwald. Many people were outraged with this, leading to claims of boycotting the movie, although Mikkelsen did an excellent job of portraying Grindelwald.

Whether you are a wizard or just a silly muggle, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” provides a thrilling escape from everyday life.
