Party School: A Smashing Review

Party School: A Smashing Review

Jon Hart’s new debut book, ‘Party School’, is a must-read for anyone interested in going to college. It is almost every teenager’s dream to get into their top college of their choice, but what happens to the ones that don’t make it in? In Jon Hart’s new debut book, ‘Party School’, that’s exactly what happens to Dylan Mills.

The story takes place at a fictional campus known as North South,  a school that is famously known for its parties, and drug consumption among the student body.  It starts when Dylan’s Mills, our main character discovers the college he’s been wait listed for has denied him. Mills is a glee club dropout, a fifth string goalie, and a high school senior ready to take the next step in this life. With no other option, he reluctantly accepts the offer to North South. The one thing about Mills, is he doesn’t party. The only thing he cares about is his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Silversmith, however the same cannot be said about her.

Silversmith got into the college of her choice and is a part of one of the wealthiest families in the city, and is very embarrassed by the fact Mills is attending one of the most shameful colleges. Once freshman year starts, so does the drama. It’s important to note that Silversmith calls all the shots in the relationship, so when she presents the idea of an open relationship, Mills is obligated to comply despite his heavy protest. Silversmith becomes quite distant with Mills, which starts a spiral of rebellion leading to underground motorcycle clubs, second hand drug consumption, partying, and streaking. The days start to blur together with rowdy nights and constant heartache, until an uncovered cheating scandal sends Silversmith running back to Mills hoping for a second chance. Now, Mills is having second thoughts on ever taking her back.

In general, ‘Party School’ is an amazing novel where the characters navigate the struggles of college life, including relationships, academics, and partying. It is a perfect novel for anyone who wants to have a deeper understanding of the challenges of navigating college life and what it entitles. This book is a real life take on what challenges a person in college can go through due to trying to get good grades while maintaining good relationships and a social life. Whether you are thinking about going to college or not, ‘Party School’ makes for an amazing read and I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in knowing more about what actually happens in college
