 I can’t stress enough how being organized can make a positive impact on one’s daily life. Does it take time? Yes. Does it happen over day and night? No. But, can you make it happen? YES.

  Before anything, the first step to do is to pay close attention to your behavior. By doing so, you can be able to determine what exactly is causing all the unorganized things you have going on. This is the very first step to a routine you should be following. Just a reminder for you who have forgotten, a routine is something you do on a daily basis, it is a muscle you have to practice exercising- it is not something you do for two weeks and stop.

   Now, most of the time, YOUR phones are the problem. It’s okay! Let’s say you spend too much time on it (which is most likely the case), you get distracted by the many notifications you get, and let’s admit, listening to the notification sound automatically catches your attention- turn off your notifications. It’s that simple. As a matter of fact, put your phone far away from you with the sound off. There are far many more important things that you need to tackle rather than wasting time on social media. Put.Your. Priorities. First. Believe me, the sooner you get done with homework and all the things on your To-Do list, the sooner you’ll get to spend time on your phone!

   In addition, there are ways to use your phone to your advantage. Reward yourself.  Rewarding yourself is healthy because your physiology motivating yourself to get more and more stuff done: the more you accomplish, the more times you’ll get to reward yourself. Now, I’m not saying reward yourself every time you complete a question on a worksheet, that would just defeat the purpose. Instead, every time you’re done with homework for a subject you can take a 10 minute break to do whatever you may please. Although, if you’re smart and wise enough you’ll realize that there are lot of things you can do during those 10 minutes besides being on your phone. Taking your dog out for  a walk, reading an article to improve your reading skills, studying for a quiz, or organizing your paper stack that you probably have somewhere. This is like killing two birds with one stone!

   Recently, Apple’s iOS 12 has added in a special effect where you can go on “Screen Time” in your setting and limit yourself to any app you use like the following: Snapchat, Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and so many more addictive apps.  Screen Time breaks down the amount of time you spend on each individual app on your device. Once again, this would be a way to use your phone in your favor. Be smart about how you use technology.

   Using tools to help you get organized wouldn’t be a bad idea. Planners, for instance help you get organized physically and mentally. Writing what you have to do for the day in your planner can be used a guide. Although, the atmosphere you’re in is also very important. Being in an atmosphere with so much chaos going on is not the best fit. The environment you work on makes an impact on your productivity. Instead, consider working in an environment with warm lighting and a room that isn’t cold.

  Productiveness can become your best friend. As long as you balance yourself thoroughly. I’m confident that you will find the right routine to better your lifestyle.
